Wedding Speech

Customarily, the best man acts as toastmaster and prepares a list of the order in which each person will make a toast.

Microphones: If the reception is in a large area you may require a microphone so all guests can hear the speeches. Check with your hired musicians or DJ for the use of their microphone. Make sure you find out when it will be available, and test the sound beforehand.

Make sure the person speaking is in a location where all guest can see them.

Suggested order of Toasting:

Rehearsal Dinner:

The best man toasts the bride
The bride toasts the groom
The groom toasts the bride's mother
The bride's father may toast the groom's parents


During the Reception:

The best man toasts the bride and groom
The groom toasts the bride and her family
The two fathers toast the bride and groom
The bride and groom toast each other


Tips:

Don't be long-winded.
Stand to give a toast, and remain seated to receive one.
Prepare beforehand so you know what you are going to say.
Mention the people you are toasting by name, your relationship to them, and a note about this celebrated event.
Speak slowly and loudly enough so all guests can hear.
Avoid consuming alcohol before your toast.
It's good fun to end the toast with a hearty finale like, "Cheers!"
