<p>Drain pineapple,  and keep 1 cup of the pineapple syrup.  Brown ribs in hot fat.  Cover and cook slowly for 1.5 to 2 hours until tender.  Add more water if needed.  Drain off oil.  Combine sugar and cornstarch and add salt, pineapple syrup, vinegar and soy sauce.  cook on medium heat until mixture thickens and turns clear.  Add pineapple chunks, green pepper strips and onion slices.  Pour over ribs and mix well.  Bring to boil and then let simmer for at least 10 minutes covered.  The longer you simmer the more flavour is absorbed.   Serve hot over rice or chow mein noodles.</p>
