This basic meatloaf recipe tastes great with or without the
barbecue sauce. Start your meal with a basic meatloaf, add
mashed potatoes or rice, and include a green vegetable for taste
and color. This basic meatloaf recipe is a classic! |

Basic Meatloaf Recipe
2 lbs. lean ground beef
1 1/2 cups bread crumbs
1 large egg, slightly beaten
1 large onion, chopped
1 can tomato sauce (8 oz.)
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. onion powder
1 green pepper (optional)
salt & pepper to taste
Directions:
Preheat Oven to 350°F.
Combine ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, tomato sauce
egg, seasonings and green pepper. Mix thoroughly and place in a
loaf pan. Add basic meatloaf sauce if desired. Bake for approx.
1 hour.
Basic Meatloaf Sauce
1/2 cup water
3 tbsp. vinegar
3 tbsp. brown sugar
2 tbsp. prepared mustard
1 1/2 cup tomato sauce
2 tbsp. butter
Combine sauce ingredients in a bowl. Cook in a saucepan over
medium heat. When butter is melted, pour over uncooked meatloaf.
Bake at 350°F for about 1 hour, spooning sauce over meat
periodically. |
